Let the Transformation Begin

Today marks the dawn of a new era in the history of Dell and EMC – we are now one company – Dell Technologies. Let’s be clear – we’re big – probably the biggest in the world of enterprise technology with over 140,000 people and hundreds of products.

But if you strip Dell Technologies down to its core, we exist for a simple reason: to create technologies that enable human progress. You see most of what we do here is infrastructure – we are often the man behind the curtain. We often don’t know what incredible things people – you – are going to do with it. What we do know is what we’ve learned over the last thirty years – if we build great products you will change the world.

When it comes to human progress we are at an incredibly interesting time. It’s the dawn of the Internet of Everything – what many have called the next industrial revolution. This revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work and relate to one another, and will transform the way every business in every industry operates.

At Dell Technologies we believe that this monumental change is rich with opportunity.

So what must your business do to play a part in the next industrial revolution? It must transform. We see ourselves as the transformational catalyst, and partner, for our customers on their journey. And look, we recognize that we’re not the only ones claiming to play this role… but we’re the best. Why? Because we have the right vision, we have the practical steps to get there and the market-leading technologies and services to enable you at every step along the way.

What does that journey look like?

The first step in the journey is a conversation – and it’s often not with the IT team, believe it or not. It’s with the business. They’re asking, “How can I adapt my business to operate in this new digital world?” If you’re a product company, digital transformation means embedding software to make your products smart, connected, and more collaborative. Take the automotive industry for example: they’re going from producing essentially mechanical objects that take us from point A to point B to a vehicle that’s connected and collaborating with the devices around it, so it can offer a whole range of services - including the capability to drive itself.

If you’re a service company, you’ve got to take your services online, direct to customers, through consumer-grade mobile apps. Take the insurance industry – in the past getting into a car accident meant phoning the call center to describe the accident – or even worse filling out paper work describing the accident and mailing it in. Now insurance companies offer mobile apps that let you to submit all of the necessary information – pictures, accident details, reports – from your smart phone at the scene of the accident, no waiting whatsoever.

The common thread here, whether you’re a product company or a service company is that new software is required to make your product smart, or to take your service online. The challenge for many companies is that they haven’t written a line of code in 20 years. Within Dell Technologies, that’s where Pivotal comes into play. Pivotal can inject into an organization modern software development methodologies as well as the underlying cloud platform. This, quite literally, will change the DNA of the organization over time.

Now a digital transformation invariably leads to an IT transformation in the data center. Why? Because the requirements driven by digital – 1000x more data created by 1000x more users – will break traditional IT infrastructure. To effect an IT transformation, IT must adopt a hybrid cloud strategy and base it on modern data center technology such as flash, scale-out, software-defined and cloud-enabled technologies, while hardening them so they’re trusted and protected. IT processes must then be automated so that IT runs in a self-service and frictionless way. Finally IT must transform the way it operates - acting as a service provider in-house and brokering additional services from external providers.

Dell EMC, Virtustream, and VMware are critical to implementing a Hybrid Cloud strategy. Hybrid cloud’s run traditional applications faster and more efficiently, freeing up the funds (up to 24% in survey’s we’ve ran) through which to lay the foundation for new, cloud-native applications that will enable digital business.

Now once the business and IT is transformed the experience of the workforce will be fundamentally different as well. They’ll use a myriad of new devices to access information and applications through digital workspaces, enabling them to work from wherever they want, whenever they want. Dell Technologies powers this workforce transformation not just through the desktops, notebooks and tablets delivered by our client business – Dell – but through the virtual desktops and digital workspaces delivered through technology from VMware.

Finally, if the workforce is accessing applications and information from wherever they are, whenever they want… on the devices of their choice, then clearly a security transformation is needed as well. There are no perimeters anymore. Data is moving further out to the edge on more devices than ever before, and so the security posture of organizations must evolve to protect the business without being an impediment to it. Security must be intelligence-driven - becoming better informed through threat intelligence, analytics and shared expertise. We secure our customers’ businesses from edge to core to cloud with RSA and SecureWorks.

Dell Technologies – Dell, Dell EMC, VMware, Pivotal, RSA, SecureWorks and Virtustream – is a unique family of businesses delivering the products and services needed for businesses to realize their digital future and become a part of the next industrial revolution. As we begin this new chapter in our history, our goal is to be your strategic partner on this journey.

So, if you haven’t taken the first step, what are you waiting for? We’re here, we’re Dell Technologies, and we’re ready to help you move towards your digital future. Don’t hesitate – let the transformation begin.
